Acclaimed for his full and warm lyrical voice, American tenor Benjamin Popson has received praise for his many interpretations as a highly musically sensitive artist in both opera and lied. From 2012 until 2014, Popson attended the Universität Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria where he studied with soprano, Michèle Crider. During his studies, Benjamin performed the role of Pélleas in Debussy’s Pélleas et Mélisande with the Opera Department of the Mozarteum. For the 2014-16 seasons, Popson joined the Opern Studio of the Hamburgische Staatsoper in Hamburg, Germany. While in Hamburg he performed such roles as Victorin in Die Tote Stadt, Harry in La Fanciulla del West, Edmondo in Manon Lescaut, Le Comte de Lerme in Don Carlos, Stephen Foley in Huw Watkins’ premier of In the Locked Room, and originated the role of Kevin in Daigger/Durão’s contemporary opera Minibar. During the 2014-15 season, Popson made his debut at the Kiel Staatsoper in their production of Wagner’s Rienzi in the role of Baroncelli. As a Lied performer, Benjamin Popson has given concerts at the Körber-Stiftung of Hamburg, Heidelberger-Frühling Festival, and Italian Culture Center of Hamburg. In 2016, Popson took part in the Heidelberger-Frühling Festival with Thomas Hampson, Brigitte Fassbaender and Wolfram Rieger.
