(He/Him) Alabama based bass-baritone and collaborative pianist. This past summer, Benjamin was an emerging artist at Opera in the Ozarks at Inspiration Point where he performed the roles of Escamillo and Zuniga in Carmen and Baron Zeta in Die lustige Witwe. He currently pursuing a MM in vocal performance from The University of Alabama.

Biography

Benjamin Somervell

Benjamin Somervell is a bass-baritone from McGehee, AR. He grew up singing in his home church where he fell in love with music. He completed his undergraduate studies in music education at Mississippi State University with a dual concentration in voice and bass trombone. During his time in Starkville, MS, he competed in the Junior TBB division at the Mississippi Division of NATS, where he won first place. Benjamin has been a featured soloist with the Mississippi All-Collegiate Honor Choir. He worked closely with Dr. Garrett Torbert and the Golden Triangle Theatre where he performed roles in Amahl and the Night Visitors (Balthazar) and The Pirates of Penzance (The Sergeant of Police). Currently, Benjamin is studying with Dr. Paul Houghtaling and performing with the University of Alabama’s Opera Theatre and Druid City Opera in Cox and Box (Sergeant Bouncer), Le Diable boiteux (Don Cléophas Zambullo), and Don Pasquale (Don Pasquale cover). He performed the role of General Boom in The Bremen Town Musicians with Mobile Opera in the Fall of 2024.  Benjamin spent the Summer of 2025 as an Emerging Artist at Opera in the Ozarks where he will be performing in Carmen (Escamillo and Zuniga) and Die lustige Witwe (Baron Zeta).
