Bruno Barbosa is a baritone and writer from São Pedro d’Aldeia, RJ, Brazil, based in Austin, TX. Recent performances include a solo recital for the Beeville Concert Association, singing de Falla's Siete canciones populares españolas as well as lieder, musical theater, and Brazilian popular songs; the role of Argante in a concert version of Handel's Rinaldo; and the role of Count Almaviva in Le Nozze di Figaro and the title role in Don Giovanni with Luke Housner's Summer Opera Workshops. His stage repertoire includes Giuseppe in The Gondoliers and Thomas Brown in The Zoo, both with Gilbert & Sullivan Society of Austin, Papageno/Sprecher in Die Zauberflöte and Peter in Hänsel und Gretel. In the 2018-2019 season, Mr. Barbosa will be singing with the ensemble and featured as soloist with the Austin Baroque Orchestra in their concert "Louis, Louis", performing Williams's The Songs of Travel and Faure's Cinq melodies de Venise in a solo recital, and singing the title role in Handel's Giulio Cesare with Echo Classical Music Ensemble. He will be freelancing as a singer of popular Brazilian music and will be in the choruses of Verdi's Otello and Puts's Silent Night with Austin Opera. Mr. Barbosa graduated with honors from The University of Texas at Austin (BA English; BM Vocal Performance) where he was a two time finalist in the English Department Writing Contest and recipient of both the Butler Excellence Scholarship and the Barbara Smith Conrad Fine Arts Scholarship. For the past two years, he has taught 8th Grade English in RRISD, where he will continue as a private lessons instructor.
