Biography

Brynna Paros

Brynna Paros is a flutist, educator, and researcher based in Johnson City, Tennessee, where she is Assistant Professor of Flute at East Tennessee State University. Originally from rural Washington State, she is deeply committed to community engagement and accessible music education. Brynna maintains a private teaching studio and offers lessons both in-person and online. As a teacher and mentor, she is passionate about helping students develop expressive, curious, and well-rounded musical voices.

As a performer, Brynna appears regularly with ensembles including the Sinfonia da Camera, Champaign-Urbana Symphony Orchestra, and Civic Orchestra of Chicago. She has performed in festivals and masterclasses throughout North America, including the Aspen Music Festival and Domaine Forget International Festival in Québec. Her recent accolades include second prize in the 2025 Krannert Debut Artist Competition and winning the 2018 University of Oregon Concerto and Aria Competition, where she performed Frank Martin’s Ballade with the UO Symphony Orchestra.

Brynna prides herself on using the flute as a medium for emotional connection and communication. With degrees in both flute performance and psychology from the University of Oregon, she went on to earn both her Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Her research focuses on audience engagement, examining how musical familiarity and contextual framing—such as program notes—shape listeners’ experiences in the concert hall. This inquiry reflects her broader commitment to exploring how performance, education, and cognitive science intersect to create more meaningful and inclusive musical experiences.

Her artistry has been shaped by the guidance of remarkable mentors, including Jonathan Keeble,  Jacqueline Cordova-Arrington, Molly Barth, and Ninee Petchprapa Wolff. Outside the concert hall and classroom, Brynna finds inspiration in nature. She enjoys hiking, wandering new trails, and soaking in the quiet beauty of her new home in East Tennessee.
