Cara McHardy studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and Conservatoire de Paris. In 2018 she covered Ortlinde DER RING DES NIBELUNGEN at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, and performed Brünnhilde excerpts for the ROH Insight, The Music of the Ring. Further cover roles include Eva in ENO’s THE MASTERSINGER OF NUREMBERG, Mad Woman in the UK premiere of Weinberg’s THE PASSENGER, Austrian Woman THE DEATH OF KLINGHOFFER and Helmwige, Ortlinde and Gerhilde for Opera North’s RING CYCLE. With Longborough Opera, Cara sang the role of Ortlinde in 2021, reprising the role in 2024 and covering the role of Senta DER FLIEGENDE HOLLÄNDER and Woglinde and Helmwige in previous Ring Cycles. Cara has also sung the roles of Gutrune and Helmwige and covered Brünnhilde for Saffron Opera’s DER RING DES NIBELUNGEN. For The London Opera Company Cara has sung the roles of Brünnhilde DIE WALKÜRE and Isolde TRISTAN UND ISOLDE. In April 2022 she will sing Brünnhilde SIEGFRIED, and reprise Isolde in a concert performance at St John’s Smith Square in October. For Edinburgh Opera Players, Cara sang the roles Chrysothemis ELEKTRA, Elisabeth TANNHÄUSER and Die Kaiserin DIE FRAU OHNE SCHATTEN. Other performances include title roles in Ferdinando Paer’s LEONORA at St John’s Smith Square; English Touring  Opera’s NORMA (cover), Kentish Opera’s AIDA and Abigaille NABUCCO; Dorset Opera’s TURANDOT (cover); and Lady Macbeth MACBETH and Desdemona OTELLO for Guildford Opera. Cara has recorded and performed with pop group Squeeze on the BBC and at the Royal Albert Hall, London.
