Biography

Carter Tholl

Carter Tholl is praised for her agile voice and clear tone, and performs a wide variety of repertoire from Renaissance to the 21st century. Originally from Tempe, Arizona, she is a graduate of Arizona State University, where she received her bachelor’s degree in voice performance, and Wichita State University, where she received a Masters of Music in Opera Performance and studied with baritone Alan Held. Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, she was most recently seen as Mabel in Opera Kansas's production of THE PIRATES OF PENZANCE. Cancelled engagements (due to COVID-19) during the 2020/21 season include: Phoebe D'Ysquith in A GENTLEMAN'S GUIDE TO LOVE AND MURDER with Oklahoma City Rep Theater, and Carrie Pipperidge in CAROUSEL with The Omaha Symphony (in collaboration with Music Theatre Wichita. Ms. Tholl was a Wichita Grand Opera Resident Artist (18/19), and performed with Opera Saratoga's Opera-to-go program (2018). In 2019 she was the winner of the St. Andrews Arts Council International Aria Competition, and in 2020 was a finalist for the Colorado Bach Ensemble Bach Competition for Young Artists. Ms. Tholl is the the founder and artistic director of Wichita Baroque, a professional early music ensemble. As an early music specialist, she has performed as a soloist with the Utrecht Early Music Festival and the Amherst Early Music Festival. She serves as an adjunct vocal instructor at Bethany College, in Lindsborg, Kansas at at Butler Community College, in El Dorado, Kansas.
