With her "memorably timbred dark mezzo," Chelsea Laggan is quickly gaining attention in a variety of roles. A recent graduate of the Academy of Vocal Arts, she is a 2022 Camille Coloratura Awards Encouragement Award Winner, 2022 winner of the WRTI Giargiari Bel Canto Competition Audience Choice Award, and Third Place Winner in the New England Region of the 2022 Laffont Competition. In Spring 2022, following a successful run as Olga in Eugene Onegin at AVA, Ms. Laggan originated the role of Nelly/Heather in the concert version- world premiere of Kevin Puts’ The Hours with the Philadelphia Orchestra. Chelsea has performed a number of roles with regional companies, including Third Lady in The Magic Flute, Flora in La traviata, Alisa in Lucia di Lammermoor and Prince Orlofsky in Die Fledermaus, as well portraying leading ladies such as Dido in Dido and Aeneas, and Bradamante in Alcina with Hofstra Opera Theatre. At AVA, she sang the roles of Maddalena in Rigoletto, Marcellina in Le Nozze di Figaro, Stéphano in Roméo et Juliette, Jezibaba in Rusalka, and La Zia Principessa in Suor Angelica.
