Colorado-born Christina Hazen is quickly making her mark in the opera and concert world. The ‘dusky-voiced mezzo-soprano’ (Cincinnati Music Notes) is a first year Resident Artist at Minnesota Opera, and will make her house debut singing Goffredo in Rinaldo. She will also cover the roles of the Marquise of Berkenfield in Daughter of the Regiment and Zerlina in Don Giovanni with Minnesota Opera.  

With Opera Fusion: New Works, Christina has workshopped the role of Sally in Kevin Puts’ The Hours for the Metropolitan Opera, and Miss Kohl in Tobias Picker’s Awakenings for Opera Theater of St. Louis. At Minnesota Opera, she covered the roles of both Pellegrina and Nellie for Paola Prestini’s world premiere of Edward Tulane. Christina has also performed in the world premieres of Gerald Cohen’s Steal a Pencil for Me and David Conte’s Stonewall, as well as performing new works as part of the Lynx Project: Autism Advocacy Series.  

An alumna of Houston Grand Opera’s Young Artists Vocal Academy and a double-graduate of the University of Cincinnati- College Conservatory of Music, Christina has also been the recipient of awards including the prestigious Norman Treigle Award from the Corbett Opera Competition. 

Other notable roles include Isabel in Pirates of Penzance (Cincinnati Opera), Flora in La Traviata (Dayton Opera), Cherubino in Le nozze di Figaro (CCM Opera), the alto soloist in Handel’s Messiah (Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra, Rosmira in Partenope (CCM Opera), Hänsel in Hänsel and Gretel (Opera Steamboat), Mrs. Fox in Fantastic Mr. Fox (Opera Steamboat), Mrs. Page in The Merry Wives of Windsor (Loveland Opera Theatre), Meg in Falstaff and the title role in Carmen (UNCO Opera Theater). Christina has been a member of the ensemble at Cincinnati Opera since 2019 and holds a Bachelor of Music from the University of Northern Colorado.
