Praised for her “lilting mezzo-soprano combined with a fierce stage presence” (Pittsburgh Post-Gazette), mezzo-soprano, Christina Overton, is establishing herself as a dynamic artist in the musical realms of opera, concert, and musical theatre. Her extensive range, sparkling agility, and warm vocal color make her ideally suited for the works of Mozart, Rossini, and classical musical theatre repertoire. Overton's 2018-2019 season includes Nellie Forbush in South Pacific with Indianapolis Opera, as well as Desireé Armfeldt in A Little Night Music and Marthe in Faust with the Natchez Opera Festival. She was recently a featured artist with the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra, where she was praised as having given “perhaps one of the most emotional, yet meaningful, performances of the evening” (Evansville Courier and Press). She performed the role of Third Lady with Chatham Opera at Festival of the Arts BOCA and The Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra in their productions of The Magic Flute. Her recent performance in the title role of Kiss Me, Kate with Opera Theater of Pittsburgh was met with much enthusiasm. She was praised for a performance “impeccably sung” (PA Theatre Guide) and a "fine comedic flair in her acting" with "authentic chemistry on stage […] both genuine and affecting.” (Pittsburgh Post-Gazette). Other engagements include, Julie LaVerne in Show Boat with Opera Naples, Dorabella (Così Fan Tutte) and Prince Orlofsky (Die Fledermaus) with Opera Fusion, and Cherubino in Miami Summer Music Festival's production of Le Nozze di Figaro. Overton appeared with the Klezmer Company Orchestra in the first Florida production of Bernstein’s On the Town. At Indiana University, she debuted the title role of Ippolita from P. Q. Phan's new opera, Lorenzo De Medici in Bloomington, Indiana. She performed as the alto soloist in Mozart’s Requiem with the Virginia Consort and in Handel’s Messiah at the Kravis Center in West Palm Beach, FL. Overton was a featured soloist in concert with The Miami Symphony Orchestra with excerpts from Rossini, where she was lauded, “the bar was set for the first half by Christina [Overton] Zimmer's powerful, rich mezzo-soprano on concert opener, Una voce poco fa.” (South Florida Classical Review) Overton’s singing has garnered her recognition and awards. She was a 2016 Marianne Cornetti Scholar, a 2014 semi-finalist in the American Traditions Vocal Competition, the recipient of the 2009 Beulah Walwark Endowment Award, and finalist in the Palm Beach National Vocal Competition (2006). In Italy, she has performed in concerts with Associazione Firenze Lyrica, Associazione Caruso, and Corale Seneses. Overton earned a Master of Music degree from the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University. She resides in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida and maintains a residence in Florence, Italy. ​ Overton is a duel citizen of Italy and the United States.
