Christopher Gray is a rising senior at the University of North Texas pursuing a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance under bass‑baritone Stephen Morscheck. This past summer, as a Studio Artist at the Aspen Music Festival and School, he covered the role of Schaunard (La bohème) and performed the role of Samana I in the world premiere of Siddhartha, She by Christopher Theofanidis and Melissa Studdard. In the fall, he will perform the title role in Rachmaninoff’s one‑act opera, Aleko.

Christopher Gray, bass-baritone, is completing his undergraduate studies in Vocal Performance at the University of North Texas, where he studies with American bass-baritone Stephen Morscheck. He is steadily establishing himself as a promising young artist on both the opera and concert stage.
Gray was recently named a winner of the 2025 UNT College of Music William Gammon Henry Concerto Competition and will perform the Catalog Aria from Mozart’s Don Giovanni in concert with the UNT Concert Orchestra. Additional honors include a Tier II Encouragement Award at the 2025 James Toland Vocal Arts Competition, winner of the 2025 Schmidt Vocal Arts Undergraduate Awards (Upper Division), and third place at the MIOpera International Vocal Competition.
Recent operatic credits include the title role in Rachmaninoff’s Aleko, Guglielmo (Così fan tutte), the Sodbuster (Proving Up), Masetto (Don Giovanni), and Colline (La bohème). In concert, he has appeared as Bass Soloist in Bach’s Magnificat in D Major and in excerpts from Mendelssohn’s Elijah with the Denton Bach Society.
In the summer of 2025, Christopher joined the Aspen Music Festival and School as a Studio Artist, covering Schaunard (La bohème) and performing Samana I in the world premiere of Christopher Theofanidis and Melissa Studdard’s oratorio Siddhartha, She. Upcoming engagements include performing Escamillo (Carmen) with Opera Arlington and joining Wolf Trap Opera as a Studio Artist in 2026, where he will cover Prince Gremin (Eugene Onegin) and sing the role of A Jailer in Puccini’s Tosca.
