Praised for her “sumptuous” voice (Chicago Classical Review), Claire Coven is a mezzo-soprano currently based in Chicago. Upcoming performances include Public Opinion in Offenbach’s Orpheus in the Underworld with Northwestern University’s Opera Projects for Undergraduate Singers (OPUS), and Guard in the world premiere of Cecelia Olszewski’s opera GREEN ROOM with Cosmia Opera Collective. Recent debuts include La Zia Principessa in Puccini's Suor Angelica with Prague Summer Nights Presto, Arnalta in Monteverdi's L'incoronazione di Poppea with Northwestern Opera Theater, and Véronique in Bizet’s Le docteur Miracle with Northwestern's OPUS. Her 2024-2025 concert performances included a world premiere for Cosmia Opera Collective’s moth songs and her debut as the alto soloist in Bach’s Magnificat with the Fairfield County Chorale Orchestra. Previous operatic highlights include the title role in Ravel’s L’enfant et les sortilèges and Arete/Megaera in Mark Adamo’s Lysistrata with Mannes Opera, and Lisa in Nino Rota’s I due timidi with the Chautauqua Opera Conservatory. She spent two summers as a Studio Artist with Teatro Nuovo performing at Lincoln Center (2022 and 2023), sang in the ensemble of On Site Opera’s production of Il tabarro on The Lightship Ambrose (2023), and performed in Italy and France with Classic Lyric Arts (2023 and 2024). Claire began her studies at the Mannes School of Music with William Burden and Cristina Stanescu, and is finishing her Bachelor of Music in Voice and Opera degree at Northwestern University’s Bienen School of Music with Norman Reinhardt.
