Biography

Deniz Uzun

Deniz Uzun comes from Mannheim, Germany, and Izmir, Turkey. She studied voice at the Mannheim Conservatory of Music and later at Indiana University in Bloomington. During her studies, she was the youngest participant in the German federal singing competition in Berlin 2012 and a finalist in the Metropolitan National Council Auditions 2015. She was a scholarship holder of the Heidelberg Spring Song Academy and the Richard Wagner Association. While still a student, she was a guest at the Nationaltheater Mannheim and the Easter Festival in Baden-Baden. In the 2015/16 season she was an Opera Studio member at the Bavarian State Opera. Since the 2016/17 season she is a member of the Zurich Opera House. She has been heard as Jacob in the children's opera Gold, Sonetka Lady Macbeth von Mzensk, Alisa Lucia di Lammermoor, Page Salome, Krista Macropulos Case; in the title roles of J. Arnecke's Ronja Raubertochter, L'Enfant et les sortileges by Ravel and Zelim in La verita in cimento, Lucilla in La Scala di Seta, Ino in Semele, Hansel in Hansel and Gretel, and with Russian and Georgian songs in the ballet Anna Karenina. She appeared as a guest at the Baden-Baden and the Munich Opera Festivals, the Mozarteum Foundation in Salzburg and in Tel-Aviv with the Zurich Ballet. In 2018 she was a prizewinner at the Hans Gabor Belvedere competition in Jurmala, Latvia and sang a gala concert and Lola (Cavalleria rusticana)at the Jurmala Festival 2019. Guest engagements in the 2019/20 season bring her to the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, Danish Broadcasting Corporation, and the Salzburg Festival.
