Tenor Dionysios "Nysio" Poulakos  is a dynamic crossover artist known for his comedic flair across both opera and musical theatre. As a Young Artist with Cedar Rapids Opera (2025) and a Festival Artist at Opera Saratoga (2023), he has had the privilege of covering main-stage roles in addition to performing comprimario roles. Nysio graduated from the Peabody Institute at John's Hopkins University with his Masters of Music in Vocal Performance and is under the tutelage of the iconic, Barry Banks.

Biography

Dionysios Poulakos

Dionysios Poulakos is a dynamic character tenor whose work bridges the genres of contemporary opera and musical theatre. As a comedic crossover performer, he excels in the world of comedy and possesses a natural affinity for the stage. Nysio has trained as a Young Artist with both Cedar Rapids Opera and Opera Saratoga, where he deepened his craft under the guidance of leading conductors, coaches, and stage directors. In both programs, he had the honor of covering mainstage roles such as the titular role Monty Navarro from "A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder" Nysio holds degrees from the Peabody Institute, William Jewell College, and Lawrence University and Conservatory. He continues to build a career rooted in curiosity, humor, and expressive storytelling.
