Biography

Donald Broerman

I am an active composer, whose compositions are primarily solo guitar works. Concerts of my own works include: The Cincinnati Guitar Society, CCM’s Something Different, Classical Revolution and House Concerts all over the midwest and as far as North Carolina. I was also commissioned to compose a piece by The Ascend Project for voice and piano. With two albums of original classical and classical crossover compositions, my music has reached listeners in 73 countries including: The United States, Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Turkey, Denmark, Malaysia, Spain, Norway, United Kingdom, Panama, Columbia, Belgium, Canada, Costa Rica, Morocco, Vietnam, Australia, Venezuela, Guatemala, Philippines and Poland, Brazil.

I am a Cincinnati native. I earned my BM in Classical Guitar Performance at the University of Cincinnati, College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) under the direction of Clare Callahan and graduated Magna Cum Laude. I have also studied Classical Guitar with David Case at the University of Oregon (School of music), as well as, Jazz guitar with Mike Denny and Chris Sorenson and started my training at the Musical Arts Center in Cincinnati.  

During my time at CCM I performed in master classes from internationally acclaimed artists such Oscar Ghiglia, David Russell, Robert Belinic and Rupert Boyd and participated in classes given by Zoran Dukic, Marcin Dylla, Carlos Perez, Johannes Möller, Daniel Lippel and others. 

I briefly studied composition with Terry McQuilken at the University of Oregon, Orchestration at CCM and took private lessons with Jennifer Jolley (Professor of Music Theory and Composition at CUNY Lehman College, President and Co-founder of N.A.N.O. Works Opera Company).

I am honored to serve the community through my work with non-profits and other arts organizations. I served as President of the Greater Cincinnati Guitar Society from 2013 to 2022. I am a member and guitar adjudicator for the Ohio Music Educators Association. I am a dedicated pedagogue whose students have won both state and regional gold medals through the Royal Conservatory of Music. I currently teach at Indian Springs Academy of Music, The Wyoming Fine Arts Center, Leaves of Learning, Frederick Douglass Elementary, as well as, my Home Studio.
