Douglas Culclasure
Douglas Culclasure (Greenville, SC), tenor, is a second-year masters student in the Maryland Opera Studio. He is also a graduate of the Bienen School of Music at Northwestern University. In 2025, Doug joined Des Moines Metro Opera as an Apprentice Artist. This fall, he can be seen as Count Belfiore in La finta giardiniera and as the tenor soloist in BWV 81 at the University of Maryland.

Biography

Douglas Culclasure


 

Douglas Culclasure (Greenville, SC), tenor, is a second-year masters student in the Maryland Opera Studio. He is also a graduate of the Bienen School of Music at Northwestern University. A versatile performer and vocalist, Culclasure has performed various roles spanning the operatic canon. Notable roles include Ferrando (Così fan tutte), Tito (La clemenza di Tito), Harlequin (Der Kaiser von Atlantis), Floreville (Il signor Bruschino), and The Magician (The Consul). In the 2024-25 season, Culclasure was recognized by the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition with an Encouragement Award (South Carolina District), created the role of Shadow Advisor in the world premiere of Ashi Day’s The Fishwife, and performed as Spärlich in Nicolai’s Die lustigen Weiber von Windsor. Most recently, Culclasure joined Des Moines Metro Opera as a 2025 Apprentice Artist. This season, Culclasure can be seen as Count Belfiore in La finta giardiniera and Fabian/David in If I Were You with the Maryland Opera Studio. Culclasure is a student of Dr. Teri Bickham.
