Biography

Edward Callahan

Edward Callahan, born in Kalamazoo, Michigan, has gained recognition as a classical and gospel pianist across the country. Beginning piano lessons at five, he quickly gained a heavy interest in classical music. From winning competitions through the Music Teachers National Association and Michigan Music Teachers Association, to competing Nationally at the NAACP Act-So competition, his music began to ring throughout the country. He attended Western Michigan University on a full scholarship while also serving as a section leader in the Bronco Marching Band. Leaving after a few years, he moved to New York to work with his mentor Damien Sneed. Since then, Callahan has graduated from Nyack College with a degree in piano performance. He has performed on “The Wiz” with George Faison directing and has toured in Italy with the Nyack Touring Gospel Choir. Callahan made his Lincoln Center Debut in 2018. His album "The Minor Keys" with works by Chopin and Schubert was released in late 2019, it reached #1 on the Classical iTunes Charts and #9 on the Traditional Classical Album Charts. In 2021, his album “Crazy Etudes” reached #1 on the Traditional Classical Album Charts, making him the first African American Pianist to do so. In 2022 he served as an Accompanist for The Metropolitan Opera Guild, and The Highbridge Voices. He currently resides in Harlem, New York, where he musically serves at The Abyssinian Baptist Church and Union United Methodist Church
