Ekaterina Sannikova

Soprano Ekaterina Sannikova is educated both as a drama actress and an opera singer. A graduate of the Tver Music College and Saint Petersburg Conservatory (MM in Vocal Performance. In the summer of 2018 Ekaterina made her Mariinsky debut as Fiordiligi in W. A. Mozart’s “Cosi fan tutte”, in a title role of Iolanta in Tchaikovsky’s “Iolanta”and Mimi in G. Puccini’s “La Boheme” on Mariinsky legendary historic stage. She appeared in a title role of Vera Sheloga (2019 premiere) as well as Olga in double bill of “Vera Sheloga”/”Maid of Pskov” by N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov at the Mariinsky-2. She also appeared on festival “Stars of the White Nights” as 1 Soprano in Mahler’s 8th Symphony with Mariinsky orchestra under the baton of Valery Gergiev, as Nedda “I Pagliacci” and Clara at Prokofiev’s “Betrothal at Monastery” In season 2020-2021 Ekaterina appeared in Mariinsky premieres of N.A.Rimsky-Korsakov’s operas “The Snow Maiden” (as Kupava) and “The Night before Christmas” (as Oxana) under the baton of Valery Gergiev. Also during this season she made her debut in a title role of Ariadne/Prima Donna in Strauss’s “Ariadne and Naxos” concert performance. In February 2021 she made her debut as Liza in Tchaikovsky’s “The Queen of Spades” in Astrakhan Opera theatre. In May 2021 she appeared on festival «Stars of the White Nights» in title role of Joan of Arc in premiere of Mariinsky’s new production «The Maid of Orleans» by P. Tchaikovsky with Mariinsky orchestra under the baton of Valery Gergiev. ​Ekaterina’s European engagements include her on-going collaboration with the Operosa Montenegro Opera Festival in Herceg Novi, where she performed the title role in P. Tchaikovsky’s “Iolanta” and Micaela in G. Bizet “Carmen”; and special guest appearances at the L’Opera Nice Cote d’Azur 2017-2018 season opening and Montecantini Opera Festival in Montecantini Terme in 2017. ​Ekaterina is the CulturArte Prize winner at the “Operalia” world opera competition (2021), First Prize Winner at the festival-competitions “Three Centuries of Russian Romances” (2016 Saint Petersburg, Russia), “Romanciada” (2016 Moscow, Russia), “Star Rhapsody” (2016 Saint Petersburg, Russia) and a Second Prize Winner at the festival “Una vacanza al mare” (2015 Saint Petersburg, Russia). Her repertoire includes the roles of Floria Tosca (“Tosca” G. Puccini), Desdemona (“Otello” by G. Verdi), Amelia (“Un Ballo in Maschera” G. Verdi), Donna Elvira (“Don Giovanni” W.A. Mozart), Marguerite (“Faust” by Ch. Gounod), Tatyana (“Evgeny Onegin” by P. Tchaikovsky), Liza (“Queen of Spades” P. Tchaikovsky), Eva (“Die Meistersinger von Nurnberg” R. Wagner), and an array of signature female roles in operas by N. Rimsky-Korsakov: Volkhova in “Sadko”, and Voyslava in “Mlada”. ​ Since 2017 Ekaterina has been a Fellow at the Atkins Young Artists Program at Mariinsky. She is continuing her professional training with Mariinsky coaches and tutors as well as with invited pianists and directors from San Fransisco Opera and Met Opera in New York, USA and Opera House Covent Garden and Royal College of Music in London, UK. In October 2018 she joined the Program’s inaugural US tour, participating in concert at Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, CA (with Colburn Orchestra, conducted by Valery Gergiev).
