Elva Tang is a flutist and educator based in Los Angeles who freelances throughout southern California. A SoCal native, Elva double majored at UC Irvine with a Bachelor of Music in Flute Performance and Bachelor of Science in Public Health Sciences. She went on to earn her Master of Music in Flute Performance from Michigan State University. Her principal teachers include Patricia Cloud and Richard Sherman.
As a performer, she is equally comfortable in orchestral, chamber, and solo settings. She has made appearances with the Battle Creek Symphony Orchestra (MI), New Britain Symphony Orchestra (CT), Nutmeg Symphony Orchestra (CT), California Solisti Chamber Orchestra, in addition to performing extensively in collegiate orchestras, chamber, and new music ensembles. She has participated in the Black House Collective New Music Workshop, Atlantic Music Festival, Domaine Forget Music Academy, Orford Musique Academy, and performed in masterclasses for notable flutists including Anne Zentner, Michael Cox, Emmanuel Pahud, and Alberto Almarza.
An experienced teacher, Elva has taught flute lessons in private and group settings to students with diverse backgrounds and goals, from beginners through university students. Invested in her students and dedicated to fostering a positive learning environment, she nurtures strong flute playing fundamentals and musicianship to develop well-rounded musicians. She is indebted to her teachers who have shaped her life and hopes to share all she has learned along the way with her students. Currently, she maintains a private studio and is flute coach at the Walnut Valley Unified School District in Walnut, CA.
