Ethan Pinckert celebrates art as a holistic and collaborative process by viewing the past through a unique lens, as well as working and innovating closely with the voices of the present and future.
At the core of his work, Ethan Pinckert prides himself in being an active participant in the creation and performance of new music. He is an active performer in the Ithaca College Contemporary Ensemble and Ithaca College Percussion Ensemble. Highlights from recent seasons include repertoire by Kevin Puts, Tōru Takemitsu, Jake Gunnar Walsh, and self composed works. Pinckert also works closely with composers in the Ithaca area and beyond. He premiered several new works in his undergraduate career including most recently the West Coast premiere of Seessa’s “The Four Loves” (which he gave also gave the world premiere of,) and a newly commissioned work soon to be premiered by Cullyn Murphy. Ethan Pinckert has also been featured as a conductor for the Ithaca College Percussion Ensemble.
Ethan Pinckert also frequently engages with the creation of new music as a composer. His works have been premiered by groups including the Ithaca College Percussion Ensemble as well as Wysteria Winds. Pinckert’s recent works frequently involve him operating between multiple disciplines, such as composer and poet for the text of works in the Travel Log series, or theatrical music such as What I’m Trying to Say Is… or …trio? (to be premiered in 2024.)
Ethan holds a Bachelor of Music in Performance from Ithaca College, and studied under Dr. Mike Truesdell and Conrad Alexander. During his undergraduate studies, Ethan Pinckert served as the principal percussionist for Ithaca College’s premier ensembles including the Ithaca College Wind Ensemble and Ithaca College Symphony Orchestra. He also won first place in the Green Vibes Project Online Vibraphone Competition in 2020. He also performed in various masterclasses taught by Dr. Abby Fisher, Dr. Aiyun Huang, as well as Nancy Zeltsman and Sharan Leventhal of Marimolin.
