Fabio Capitanucci

Fabio Maria Capitanucci won the prestigious contest of the Teatro Lirico Sperimentale di Spoleto in 1998 at just 23 years old. Immediately afterward, he won selections for the Advanced Academy of the Teatro alla Scala, which he attended from 1999 to 2001. In 2002 he obtained the Renato Bruson Award in its first edition. He has since performed at many of the leading opera houses in the world, including Teatro alla Scala, the Royal Opera House, the Metropolitan Opera, Wiener Staatsoper, and Bayerische Staatsoper among many others. Since 1999 he has appeared regularly at La Scala, where he debuted as Marcello in La bohème, Cavalier Belfiore in Un giorno di regno, Sharpless in Madama Butterfly, Lescaut in Massenet’s Manon, and Guglielmo in Così fan tutte. His other appearances at La Scala include Lucia di Lammermoor, Les Troyens, Il viaggio a Reims, and Le nozze di Figaro.  Capitanucci has sung his vast repertoire in many of the major European and international theatres: L’elisir d’amore in Florence, Paris, Frankfurt, Munich, Valencia, Rome, London, Madrid, and Turin; Il viaggio a Reims in Genoa; La bohème in Genoa, Dresden, Madrid, Arena in Verona, Stresa, Turin, at the Royal Opera House in London, at the Metropolitan Opera, and in Atlanta; Le nozze di Figaro in Turin, Madrid, Vienna, Palermo and Dresden; Madama Butterfly in Palermo, at Teatro Liceu in Barcelona and in Dresden; Candide in Genoa; Roberto Devereux in Pamplona, Marseille and Munich; Così fan tutte in Hamburg, Genoa and Rieti; Lucia di Lammermoor in Marseille, Turin, Munich and at the New York MET; Don Pasquale  in Florence, Genoa and at the Florida Grand Opera in Miami; La Cenerentola in Barcelona and Dresden; Il Barbiere di Siviglia in Dresden, Lausanne, Palermo, Budapest, Hamburg and at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich; La traviata at Wiener Staatsoper, Turin and Munich; Falstaff in Vienna, Dresden and Monte Carlo; Les Troyens in London; Linda di Chamounix at Liceu in Barcelona; Il Pirata in Marseille; and I Puritani in La Coruña and in Madrid. Since 2005 he has often been a guest of the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro, where he debuted in La cambiale di matrimonio, Edipo a Colono, and Coccia’s Arrighetto. Beside opera, his repertoire includes sacred and symphonic music such as Perosi’s La Cena del Signore and Orff’s Carmina Burana. He recorded Madama Butterfly (CD) for EMI Classics conducted by Sir Antonio Pappano, Cilea’s Gina (CD) for Bongiovanni, La bohème (DVD) for Opus Arte, La cambiale di matrimonio (CD) for Dynamic, Leoncavallo’s I Medici (CD), and Fedora for Deutsche Grammophon. Among Capitanucci’s recent and future engagements are: Falstaff at La Scala and in San Francisco, Bamberg, and Lucerne; La Traviata at Wiener Staatsoper and in Munich; Madama Butterfly in Barcelona and Bergen; Les Troyens at la Scala; La vedova allegra in Genoa;  La bohème in Genoa, Saarbrucken, Taormina, Trapani, and Tokyo; Maria Stuarda in Monte-Carlo; Pagliacci in Melbourne; Le nozze di Figaro and Il Barbiere di Siviglia in Palma de Mallorca; Don Giovanni, Madama Butterfly and Les pêcheurs de perles in Turin; La Cenerentola in Cardiff and Sassari; Il viaggio a Reims in Valencia; Il Barbiere di Siviglia in Barcelona, Berlin and Florence; Linda di Chamounix in Florence;  Il furioso all’isola di santo Domingo at the Barbican Center in London; Lo sposo di tre e marito di nessuna, Le nozze di Figaro and Il barbiere di Siviglia in London and Florence; Don Giovanni at Teatro alla Scala; and La gazza ladra in Vienna.
