Gabe Ponichter is a 17-year-old actor, singer, dancer and pianist living in New York City. Gabe is known for his work in creating the role of Young Giorgio in the world premiere of The Garden of the Finzi-Continis at NYTF & The New York City Opera. Most recently, Gabe has been honing his craft as a classical singer (Tenor) at the Juilliard School Pre-College under the tutelage of Lorraine Nubar.
Gabe loves the live stage and since the age of seven has had the privilege of performing in some of New York’s best venues, including Carnegie Hall, Jazz at Lincoln Center, Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM), The Juilliard School, The Manhattan School of Music, Bergen PAC, and Hunter College’s Kaye Playhouse. Some of Gabe’s favorite theatre credits are Valjean (Les Miserables) and King Claudius (Hamlet) with The Dalton School drama department, and as Arab (West Side Story), Laurie (Little Women), and George (Sunday in the Park with George) in scenes performances at The Juilliard School Pre-College.
In addition to theatre and opera, Gabe enjoys many forms of dance - tap, musical theatre, jazz and ballet. He is a member of The Studio, Shuffles NYC’s pre-professional musical theatre company, and The Company, Shuffles NYC’s pre-professional tap dance company, and regularly performs in productions directed by Gail and Buddy Crutchfield. Gabe was proud to have been recognized by Shuffles NYC with the Junior Joy Award in 2021 and the Class Joy Award in 2024.
Gabe has performed extensively with the Boston University Tanglewood Institute chorus, Interlochen Arts Camp chorus, Broadway Youth Ensemble, the Young People’s Chorus of New York City, and the Brooklyn Youth Chorus.
During the 2024 and 2025 seasons, Gabe was a finalist at Schmidt Vocal Arts Regional Competitions, and in 2024, Gabe was recognized as a New York State All-State Singer by CS Music. In 2022, Gabe won 1st Place in the Prima Volta Music Competition as well as the Salzburg and Amsterdam Grand Prize Virtuoso International Music Competitions. He was also a Semi Finalist in the CS Music Competition for Classical High School Voice in the spring of 2022 and 2023. In 2021, Gabe won First Place in the vocal category of the International Grande Music Competition. Gabe was also a solo finalist for multiple years in a row in the Art Song and Musical Theatre categories of the Hal Leonard Vocal Competition.
In addition to studying voice at The Juilliard School Pre-College, Boston University Tanglewood Institute, and Académie Internationale d'Eté de Nice, among other elite training programs, Gabe also studies acting, advanced tap, ballet, jazz, musical theater, and classical piano. He has performed in several honors piano recitals, including at the Interlochen Center for the Arts.
Outside of performing and his arts training, Gabe enjoys spending time with his family and friends and feels most alive on a long run in Central Park. He is an avid long distance competitive runner and three season member of The Dalton School’s Varsity cross-country team, indoor track and outdoor track teams. He was recently recognized as a Second Team All Ivy cross-country runner and helped to lead his XC team to a third place league finish.
