Biography

Gaeun Song

Gaeun Song, a coloratura soprano from South Korea, is renowned for the deep resonance of her warm voice and her thoughtful approach to interpretation, captivating audiences with her refined artistry and technical prowess. Currently based in New York City, she has garnered recognition for her achievements, winning prizes in prestigious competitions such as the Opera Index Competition.​

In the 2024-25 season, Gaeun will present a diverse array of performances, including “Evening of Song,” “Piano Cantabile,” “Cinderella - A Fairy Tale,” and “Shall We Dance” at esteemed venues such as the Union Club and C. Stiefel Concert Hall as part of the Mannes Sounds Festival. She will perform as the cover of Morgana in Händel’s Alcina at The Gerald W. Lynch Theater. Additionally, she was invited to participate in the live audition for the Cascais Opera - International Vocal Competition in Portugal in April. This year, she was also selected to join the Arko Ensemble,expanding her presence in performances across the United States.​​

In Korea, Gaeun has distinguished herself by winning prizes in the Music Education News Competition and the Haneum Music Competition. A versatile performer, she has also participated in significant choral premieres, including “A Sea Symphony”, and “Brahms’ Liebeslieder Walzer Op. 52”, and “Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9”. In 2023, she showcased her artistry with the Seocho Philharmonic Orchestra.​

She has participated in masterclasses with internationally acclaimed artists such as Kwangchul Youn, Benjamin Appl and Brian Zeger, and she further honed her skills at the Eva Lind Musikakademie Tirol. This year, she was also selected to join the CLA Summer Program. Her exceptional talent was recognized through scholarships from the Kwanak Corporation and the Hyupsung Changae Foundation.​

Gaeun completed her bachelor’s degree in Summa Cum Laude at Seoul National University, studying with Jennifer Larmore and Ho-Jeong Jeong. Currently, she is pursuing her master’s degree at the Mannes School of Music, studying with Arthur Levy and Joshua Greene
