Garrett Reider is a bass from Wilmington, North Carolina. He is pursuing a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance at Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music in Houston, Texas, where he studies with Dr. Robin Rice. At the Shepherd School, he will appear as Sarastro in the fall 2025 production of Die Zauberflöte, directed by R.B. Schlather and conducted by Louis Lohraseb.
Professionally, Reider has performed roles in two operas with Opera Wilmington: Masetto in their 2025 production of Mozart’s Don Giovanni, and Sciarrone in their 2024 Tosca. Additional stage experience includes chorus work in Shepherd School productions of John Corigliano’s The Ghosts of Versailles and Handel’s Alcina.
He has also participated in workshops with distinguished artists, including performances as Sarastro in a concert production of Die Zauberflöte with Luke Housner of the Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia, and as Fafner in a scenes program of Wagner’s Das Rheingold with Ryan McKinny.
Prior to his studies at Rice, Reider completed his high school education at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts (UNCSA), where he studied with Dr. Marilyn Taylor. At UNCSA, Reider performed in the chorus of the A.J. Fletcher Opera Institute’s 2024 production of Donizetti’s Maria di Rohan.
