Biography

Grant Buchanan Shields

Grant Buchanan Shields, tenor, is from Morrow, Ohio. He holds a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music (CCM), where he was a student of Kenneth Shaw. He is currently in his Master’s of Music in Opera at Binghamton University as a student of Thomas Goodheart. During his time at Binghamton, he performed as Eisenstein in Die Fledermaus and Pablo in their recent production of How Nanita Learned to Make Flan. While at Binghamton, he was awarded first place in the NATS District Competition in the Lower Advanced Classical Division and second place in the NATS Regional Competition in the Advanced Classical Division. While at CCM, he performed numerous roles such as Don Basilio and Don Curzio in Le Nozze di Figaro, Gherardo and covered for Rinuccio in Gianni Schicchi, the Sailor and chorus in Dido and Aeneas, the Tenor Soloist in Nunez Garcia’s Requiem, in the chorus in Le dialogue des Carmélites, Mercury in Orpheus in the Underworld, in the chorus in Die Zauberflöte, and Jephté in Historia di Jephté. Outside of CCM, he was a chorus member for Cincinnati Opera’s 2023 Summer Season, where he sang in their productions of Lucia di Lammermoor, Il barbiere di Siviglia, and Madama Butterfly. He additionally participated in Queen City Opera’s Super Flute, where he covered Monostatos and was a member of the chorus.
