Griffen Hogan Tracy

Griffen Hogan Tracy is a native of Golden, Colorado. Praised by Parterre Box for his “glorious outpouring of tone.” he is a recent graduate of the acclaimed Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia. During his final season at AVA Griffen sang Prince Gremin Eugene Onegin and Colline La Boheme. He was also featured in AVA’s winter recital singing Viktor Ullmanns’s Liederbuch des Hafis. This past summer, Griffen joined the Santa Fe Opera as an Apprentice Artist where he covered the role of Manuel Toulon in Huang Ro’s new opera M. Butterfly and was featured in the Apprentice Scenes program as Phillipe II Don Carlos. In the 22/23 season Griffen will premier a new opera in Atlanta, GA and debut with Amarillo Opera as Sparafucile Rigoletto and Cincinatti Opera as Raimondo Lucia di Lammermoor. Previously at AVA, Griffen has been featured in a wide variety of recitals and operas, performing repertoire by Shostakovich, Berg, Rachmaninoff, Haydn, and Handel, as well as Mozart and Verdi. Before joining the Academy of Vocal Arts, Griffen made numerous concert and operatic debuts around the country. He joined the Colorado Repertory Singers singing the bass solo in Mozart’s Requiem, then debuted with the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra in their performance of Beethoven’s 9th Symphony. In the summer of 2019, Griffen was a Gerdine Young Artist at Opera Theatre of St. Louis, where he sang the role of 3rd Familiari in The Coronation of Poppea. While at OTSL, he covered the roles of Seneca in The Coronation of Poppea and Sparafucile in Rigoletto. During the 2017-2018, season he made his role debut as Figaro in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro and also portrayed Eduard Casaubon in Allan Sheerer’s new opera Middlemarch in Spring. His performance of Casaubon was praised for its “insidious maliciousness” (Arts Knoxville). Griffen closed the 2017-2018 season by returning to Central City Opera’s Bonfils-Stanton Artist Training Program, where he sang Un Vecchio Zingaro in their mainstage production of Verdi’s Il trovatore. He also performed in their scenes program, performing a wide variety of characters such as Don Pasquale (Don Pasquale), The Pirate King (The Pirates of Penzance), and Dansker (Billy Budd). Equally comfortable with early and modern operatic repertoire, he has sung Neptune in Monteverdi’s Il ritorno d’Ulisse in Patria as well as Reverend John Hale in Robert Ward’s The Crucible. Other roles have included Leporello in Don Giovanni with the Yakima Symphony, Emile de Becque in South Pacific, Sir John Falstaff in The Merry Wives of Windsor and Dr. Bartolo in Le Nozze di Figaro. Griffen is a two-time District winner (Georgia and Colorado/Wyoming) of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions and received an encouragement award at the Regional Finals (2019). At the 2019 Denver Lyric Opera Competition, Griffen won second place. Before graduating with a M.M. from the University of Tennessee, he received his B.M. from the Lamont School of Music.
