Born in Carrilobo in the region of Córdoba (Argentina), Gustavo Porta began his studies at the Conservatory of Córdoba and completed further training at the "Istituto Superior de Arte del Teatro Colón" in Buenos Aires. In 1996 Mr. Porta made his debut at the "Teatro Colón" in Buenos Aires in The Magic Flute (Monostatos), and then appeared at the" Teatro Argentino de la Plata" (Gianni Schicchi, Lucia di Lammermoor, Giovanna d'Arco), " Teatro San Martín de Córdoba" (La Traviata) and at the "Teatro El Círculo de Rosario" (Tosca, La Bohème) in Argentina. Mr. Porta moved to Italy in 1999 and made his European debut in "Carmen" in Padua. The following year he appeared in the world premiere of "I due timidi" by Nino Rota at the "Teatro Politeama di Palermo" and in "Il mito di Canio" by Francesco Margola at the "Teatro Grande di Brescia" and "Teatro Ponchielli di Cremona". In 2001 Mr. Porta made his debut in "I Vespri Siciliani" in Darmstadt. Thereafter the young artist's career took off, resulting in more engagements in theaters in Italy and abroad in many works of the lyric and spinto repertoires: "Tosca" (Teatro Bellini di Catania, Göteborg Oper), "Manon Lescaut" (Göteborg Oper), "La Bohème" (Palma di Mallorca) "Le Villi" (Teatro Liceu in Barcelona), "Cavalleria Rusticana" (Macerata Opera Festival, under the baton of Pier Giorgio Morandi), "Aida" (in Rome and Florence in a production by Franco Zeffirelli), "Macbeth" (Vigoleno, Piacenza), "Aroldo" (Piacenza in a production by Pier Luigi Pizzi), "I Lombardi alla prima Crociata" ("Teatro Colón de Buenos Aires", conducted by Richard Bonynge), "Norma" (Stockholm), "Carmen" (in Tel Aviv with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos and in Cagliari conducted by Yves Abel), "Faust" (Città del Capo). Other important highlights were his debut at the "Teatro Real de Madrid" in "La Dolores" and the production of "La vida breve" (conducted by Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos) in Oslo and Bergen. Further highlights in 2006 included performances in "Madama Butterfly" in Tokyo, "La Gioconda" in Catania (cond. Donato Renzetti) and Mr. Porta's "Il Trovatore" debut at the Avenches Festival in Switzerland. Also of great importance was the invitation to sing "Manon Lescaut" and "Germania" by Frachetti at the "Deutsche Oper" in Berlin, conducted by Renato Palumbo. Other engagements in 2007 include his return to the " Deutsche Oper" with "Cassandra" by Gnecchi, " Manon Lescau" in Trieste (cond. Daniel Oren), "Aida" at the Avenches Festival and other important role debuts such as Foresto in " Attila" in Bari, Dick Johnson in "La Fanciulla del West" in Prague," Un Ballo in Maschera" in Graz (Austria) and "Andrea Chenier" in Catanzaro. In 2008 the artist made his "Frankfurt Opera" debut in Tosca, and returned to the Deutsche Oper to sing "Aida" (cond. Renato Palumbo), and his important debut in Lipsia in a production of "Manon Lescaut" under the Baton of Riccardo Chailly in a production by Giancarlo Del Monaco. In the summer he sang "Giovanna D'Arco" At the Festival St. Gallen (also directed by Giancarlo Del Monaco). He was also invited to the Montpellier Festival of Radio France to perform in "Fedra" by Ildebrando Pizzetti, of which a recording was made, and his debut at "Maggio Musicale Fiorentino" produces grate success with the operas "Tosca" and "Cavalleria Rusticana" It must be considered, during his latest times in Mr. Porta's career, Fausto of "Mefistofeles" of A. Boito in Frankfurth's and Montpellier's theatres, "El Tabarro" in Dusseldorf, "Il Trovatore" in Palermo and, after his debut in Canio of " I Pagliacci" in Tel Aviv, he has continuously being invited to perform this role in the "Wiener Staatsoper"; where he has been warmly rewarded by generous applauses from people and press. Successively, Mr. Porta performs Don José in " Carmen" in Masada's Festival, Israel, under the baton of Daniel Oren; and debuts in the role of Hagenbach in "La Wally" in the Czech Republic. In 2013 Mr. Porta opens up the year with two major events: Firstly in Torino with "Andrea Chenier" and conducted by Renato Palumbo. Secondly, in Tel Aviv with "Otello"'s debut. Among his upcoming endeavours we must mention "Aida" in Wetzikon´s Festival, Switzerland; "Don Carlo" and the " Requiem" of Verdi in Varsavia, "I Pagliacci" in Moscu, "I Pagliacci" and "Manon Lescaut" In Tokyo, "Les contes d' Hoffman" in Tel Aviv. Also, "I Pagliacci" in Pekin and "Ernani" in Belgium.
