Biography

Haley Fuqua

Idaho native and dramatic coloratura soprano Hailey Fuqua has been hailed for her “gorgeous tone…reached her high notes in her coloratura with enviable ease and precision” (San Francisco Classical Voice) who “wields a fine instrument” (Boston Musical Intelligencer) and made her debut at the Carmel Bach Festival stepping in as the Queen of the Night on short notice. Noted for her “pure and ample soprano” (Boston Classical Review), she was the first soprano to sing the role of the Stage Manager in Ned Rorem’s “Our Town”. She recently had a role debut of Alceste (Gluck’s Alceste) with period ensemble Grand Harmonie. In 2015 she helped to unveil the Western Hemisphere premiere of Lee Mingwei’s “Sonic Blossom” at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. This interactive performance art exhibit featured Schubert lieder in intimate performances for museum patrons. Other recent performances include La Comtesse Adele in Rossini's Le Comte Ory with Lowell House Opera and Countess in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro with Opera del West. An up and coming interpreter of Baroque and Classical repertoire, she was the sole American semi-finalist in the Froville Baroque competition (Luneville, France) in the 2013 edition. She holds degrees from Boston Conservatory in Vocal Performance and Boston University in Historical Performance, both summa cum laude. She sings weekly with the renowned all-professional ensemble at the Church of the Advent in Beacon Hill. Hailey has appeared as a featured soloist with the American Bach Soloists, Spokane Symphony, Boston Opera Collaborative, Lowell Philharmonic, Berkshire Choral Festival, Chatham Chorale, MIT Symphony Orchestra, Boston Conservatory Orchestra. Recent appearances include Il Penseroso in Handel’s L’Allegro, Il Penseroso ed il Moderato, soloist in Bach’s B Minor Mass and chorus in the North American premiere of Biber’s Salzburg Mass at the American Bach Soloists summer festival, and Rodisette in Der Geduldige Socates at the Amherst Early Music Festival. Works on the operatic stage include roles in Mozart’s Magic Flute (Queen of the Night), Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro (Countess), Rorem’s Our Town (Stage Manager) Handel’s Giulio Cesare (Cleopatra), Mozart’s The Abduction from the Seraglio (Konstanze), Puccini’s La Rondine (Yvette), Massenet’s Manon (Manon), Adele (Le Comte Ory), Alceste (Alceste) and Mozart’s Don Giovanni (Donna Anna). In 2010 Hailey presented a solo orchestral program “The Diva in Love” with the Lowell Philharmonic including the Letter Scene from “Eugene Onegin”. Ms. Fuqua has been featured as soprano soloist in Vivaldi's Gloria, Mozart’s Grand Mass in C Minor, Haydn's Theresienmesse, and Orff's Carmina Burana. A former member of the Tanglewood Festival Chorus with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and Boston Pops, she has appeared in the chorus under the batons of James Levine, Bernard Haitink, and Andris Nelsons, and Lorin Maazel. Hailey currently studies with Michael Meraw. Past teachers include soprano Jane Randolph, tenor Aaron Sheehan, and soprano Kathryn Wright. She has been featured in masterclasses with renowned sopranos Christine Brewer, Sheri Greenawald, and Inci Bashar as well as Max van Egmond, Judith Malafronte, and Julianne Baird. In addition to her musical pursuits, Hailey is an innovative leader and advocate for arts marketing and patron services in Boston, combining her passion for the arts with administration. She led the subscriptions campaign at the Tony-Award winning Huntington Theatre Company for three seasons. Hailey co-founded the consulting services at Opus Affair and serves as their Director of Client Services.
