Boston-based soprano with an extensive, creative repertoire.
You've heard of Tin Pan Alley's greats like George Gershwin, Irving Berlin, Scott Joplin, and Cole Porter, but have you heard of the women behind these men?
In the spirit of empowering women as Women's History Month approaches, the women of West End Lyric are proud to present: The Women of Tin Pan Alley, a cabaret and fundraiser, which will feature works that showcase the rarely heard songwriting talents of Kay Swift, Dorothy Fields, Ann Ronell, Dana Seusse, Maria Grever, Irene Kitchings & Bernice Petkere.
Performing these works are the West End Lyric executive board, their voice students, and local Boston musicians!
In addition, local painter, Jimmy Iwonawa, has graciously donated an original painting for silent auction that depicts our spring opera: L'amico Fritz! The bidding starts at $300 to have this beautiful piece in your home or location of choice!
All proceeds from the performance and fundraiser will support West End Lyric's season and the all-women executive team that runs this music collective!

Boston-based soprano Hannah Shanefield earns enthusiastic acclaim on operatic, concert, and recital stages alike. Her extensive repertoire spans from Baroque to modern.
In the 2023-2024 season, Hannah looks forward to debuting the roles of Suzel (L'amico Fritz) with West End Lyric and La Grande Prêtresse/Une Bérgère in Brooklyn Telemann Chamber Society's film production of Rameau's Hippolyte et Aricie. Additionally, she will perform in several concerts, including West End Lyric's Women of Tin Pan Alley Cabaret, an art song recital with Calliope, and Orchestra Without Borders's "borderlines: east-west" singing works by Mahdi Al Mahdi and Odaline de la Martinez.
Operatic highlights include Euridice (Orfeo ed Euridice), Diana (La Calisto), Gilda (Rigoletto), the titular role in The Cunning Little Vixen, Madame Herz (The Impresario), Jenny (Rorem's Three Sisters Who Aren't Sisters), the Sandman/Dew Fairy (Hansel and Gretel), and Berta (Il Barbiere di Siviglia).
A diverse repertory enthusiast, Hannah is passionate about championing new music and the works of underrepresented composers. She has produced and performed in numerous chamber concerts featuring modern works by female and queer composers.
Equally as enthusiastic about concert works, she has performed the soprano solos in Brahms's Ein deutsches Requiem, F. Couperin's Trois Leçons de Ténèbres, J.S. Bach’s BWV 150 and BWV 196, Mozart's Requiem, Dubois's Seven Last Words of Christ, and Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms.
Additionally, Hannah recently made her directorial debut leading West End Lyric's innovative double bill of Il Giuoco del Quadriglio by Antonio Caldara and J.S. Bach's Coffee Cantata, BWV 211.
A native of suburban Philadelphia, Hannah received her Master of Music in Vocal Performance from the New England Conservatory in 2020, studying with Karen Holvik. In 2018, she graduated from The Hartt School with a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance with a minor in Music History, studying with Maureen Flynn and Joanna Levy.
