Hayley Fox is a lyric soprano making her mark through performing new and classic operatic works. She starred in her own production of Poulenc’s La Voix Humaine this past spring at the Chicago College of the Performing Arts. Her recent engagements include covering Cinderella at Cedar Rapids Opera in a new production, and last fall she covered the title role in the North American premiere of Leonora by Ferdinando Paër with Chicago Opera Theater. She premiered the role of Emily in The Weight of Light by Gillian Ray Perry to critical praise in the spring of 2024, and she played The Girl in the world premiere of Carlos Carrillo’s and Stephanie Fleischmann’s Remedios Varios Para las Aflicciones del Cuerpo y el Espíritu this spring as part of the Vanguard Initiative’s incubator for new works. Other workshops include singing the title role in Morgaine with Opera Fusion: New Works’ workshop of Edmond Dede’s recently rediscovered French grand opera, co-commisioned by Opera Lafayette and Opera Creole.
Hayley covered Praskovya Ospipovna/Mother./Repectable Lady in Chicago Opera Theater’s production of Shostakovich’s The Nose, while also singing Attendant/Traveller 3. Equally comfortable in early repertoire as well as modern, she recently covered Armida in Handel’s Rinaldo while at the Glimmerglass Festival and sang Colette in Le Devin du Village by Jean Jacques Rousseau with the Chicago College of the Performing Arts this past October.
However, she is also skilled in standard repertoire, as she was seen as Micaëla with in an abridged version of Bizet’s Carmen, which she also assistant directed at CCPA. She recently sang Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi, and covered Mimi in La bohème this summer with Opera Company of Middlebury. Other modern American opera credits include Susannah (Miss Hayes) as a Wolf Trap Opera Studio Artist in 2022, and in Galieo Galilei (Sagredo/Marie/Eos) with CCM Opera. Hayley is from Pennsylvania, and studied in Cincinnati, OH. She now resides in Chicago, IL, and will work with Lyric Unlimited this upcoming season as Marina (cover) in Katie: The Strongest of the Strong.
