Biography

Helaine Liebman London

American soprano Helaine Liebman London is an exciting young artist to follow with many accolades. She is currently based in Chicago. Ms. Liebman London has performed all over the world - including England, Italy, Portugal, and India. Notable venues have been Carnegie Hall, Victoria Albert Museum, The National Gallery of Art in London, St. George's Hannover Square, and the Chautauqua Institution. She prides herself on being a versatile performer - well versed in opera, art song, oratorio, and musical theater.  

She recent won the Leopold O. Damrosch Award from the 2025 Lyndon Woodside Oratorio CompetitionAdditionally, she winner in the Wisconsin District of the 2020-2021 Metropolitan Opera Laffont National Council Competition, recipient of the 2021 Lynne Harvey Fnd Award in honor of Virginia Cooper Maier from the Musicians Club of Women, first place winner of the 2020 IAET Joseph P. Glimco Jr. Vocal Competition, First Place Winner of the Advanced College Classical Division of the 2021 NATS National Student Auditions, and various other prizes from NATS and other institutions

Ms. Liebman London's 2024-2025 season was highlighted with her performance of Contessa/Le Nozze di Figaro at the Chautauqua Institute.  She was there studying under the direction of Denyce Graves and Jonathan Beyer. Her 2023-2024 season included Micaëla/Carmen, Mutter/Hansel und Gretel and Harlequin/Der Kaiser von Atlantis at Northwestern and Contessa/Le Nozze di Figaro in Novafeltria, Italy. Her 2022-2023 season included covering the role of Donna Elvira/Don Giovanni at the Aspen Music Festival and performing Handel's Alcina/Alcina and Erste Dame/Die Zauberflöte at Northwestern University. Other roles performed include Violetta/La Traviata, Rosalinde/Die Fledermaus, and Mimì/La bohème, Suor Angelica/Suor Angelica, Nella/Gianni Schicchi, and Massanet's Cendrillon/Cendrillon. Ms. Liebman London has trained during other seasons at the Chautauqua Institute, Aspen Music Festival, SongFest, Savannah Voice Festival, Southwest Opera, and the Castleton Festival. Professionally, Ms. Liebman London has performed with the Westminster Opera Company, Garden State Opera, City Lyric Opera, and Amore Opera. 

Ms. Liebman is a graduate of Northwestern University where she achieved a Masters of Music and a Bachelors of Music with honors with a minor in Musicology and an adhoc double degree with Lyric Languages. Currently she is working on a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Voice at Northwestern University where she has finished all her class requirements and achieved cognates in Musicology and Music Theory. Her mentors at Northwestern University are Pamela Hinchman, Alan Darling, and Joachim Schamberger. For her graduate work she was supported by the Joyce Reed Cope Scholarship and Eckstein Scholarship. Ms. Liebman-London also graduated from the Royal College of Music in London, UK with a Masters in Performance studying with Janis Kelly, Gary Matthewman and Simon Lepper. There she was a Mark Loveday Scholar supported by a Neville Wathen Award

When Ms. Liebman is not singing opera, she enjoys playing with her dog Mindy and spending time with her family. She also loves crocheting, studying design, and learning new arts and crafts and skills.
