Helena represented Australia in the 2005 BBC Cardiff Singer of the World. Helena was also runner up in the prestigious Herald Sun Aria and a finalist in the McDonalds Aria held at the Sydney Opera House. She made her USA debut as a finalist in the Seattle International Wagner Opera competition.

Helena Dix

Described by critics as ‘The most exciting voice since Joan Sutherland’, Australian born Helena Dix has secured her name on the operatic stages all around the world. Helena has had a great deal of success in competitions, most notably representing Australia in the 2005 BBC Cardiff Singer of the World. Helena was also runner up in the prestigious Herald Sun Aria and a finalist in the McDonalds Aria held at the Sydney Opera House. She made her USA debut as a finalist in the Seattle International Wagner Opera competition to great critical acclaim.  Helena’s operatic repertoire includes: the title role in Feroni’s CRISTINA REGINA DI SVEZIA for Wexford Festival Opera, Oldenburg Staatstheater and Chelsea Opera Group, Elettra IDOMENEO and Odabella ATTILA for Staatstheater Nürnberg and Lubeck opera, the title-role LA GIOCONDA for Teatro Calderón, Valladolid, Flowermaiden PARSIFAL for English National Opera, Elvira (cover) ERNANI  for The Metropolitan Opera, Isabella DAS LIEBESVERBOT for Chelsea Opera, Rosalinde DIE FLEDERMAUS and Hanna Glawari THE MERRY WIDOW for Scottish Opera where she has also covered Frasquita CARMEN and Karolina THE TWO WIDOWS. Other roles include Fiordiligi COSI FAN TUTTE, Donna Anna DON GIOVANNI, Contessa LE NOZZE DI FIGARO and Nella GIANNI SCHICCHI for The Opera Project and Musetta LA BOHEME for Opera Novella. She has also covered the title role ARIADNE AUF NAXOS for Garsington Opera.  Her concert engagements include: Rossini Petite Messe Solennelle Mozart Coronation Mass in C, Requiem and Mass in C Minor, Rheinberger Oratorio de Noel, Saint-Saens Christmas Oratorio, Brahms Requiem, Richard Strauss Four Last Songs, Mahler Rückert Lieder, Mendelssohn Elijah, Beethoven 9th Symphony, Mozart Exsultate Jubilate, Faure Requiem, Britten War Requiem, Chausson Poème de l’amour et de la mer, Orff Carmina Burana, Haydn Creation and Verdi Requiem.  Helena works regularly at The Metropolitan Opera where she has covered the roles of Elvira ERNANI, Elisabetta ROBERTO DEVEREUX, Elettra IDOMENEO, the title-role SEMIRAMIDE, Vitellia LA CLEMENZA DI TITO and the title-role NORMA. In 2019 Helena made her Metropolitan Opera stage-debut as Alice Ford FALSTAFF.  In her native Australia, Helena’s recent engagements have included her first staged Wagner role Elsa LOHENGRIN and the role of Elisabetta in ROBERTO DEVEREUX for Melbourne Opera where critics rated her ‘8 out of 5 stars’.  She has since returned to Melbourne where she performed the Verdi Requiem at the Melbourne Town Hall and triumphed as the title-role NORMA for Melbourne opera.  Engagements elsewhere in recent seasons have included her house and role debut at Longborough festival in the title role ARIADNE AUF NAXOS, covering Sondra Radvanovsky in ROBERTO DEVEREUX at San Francisco opera,  a return to The Royal Albert Hall to sing the Verdi Requiem with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, her UK debut as NORMA with Chelsea Opera Group at Cadogan Hall, the rare Ode to a Nightingale with The Worthing Symphony and Elisabetta ROBERTO DEVEREUX for Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe.  Helena also recorded Missa Sabrenesis by Howells with the BBC Concert orchestra and The Bach choir which will be released on Hyperion records in May 2020.  During the 2020 Covid lockdown Helena appeared in the Wexford Festival online gala, was selected to sing for Richard Bonyage’s 90th birthday celebration concert and gave several online masterclasses and lessons.  Upcoming engagements include singing in the launch of National Operas season as Vitellia in LA CLEMENZA DI TITO , returning to Melbourne to sing her role debut as Lady Macbeth in MACBETH with Melbourne opera. Joining forces once again with Chelsea opera group Helena will sing another Queen in ROBERTO DEVEREUX and will return to The Royal Albert Hall to sing Carmina Burana. Next season Helena will be making her much anticipated debut with Seattle opera.
