Biography

Henry Horstmann

Henry's desire to be an opera singer was cemented when he first saw recordings of Leonard Warren and Sherill Milnes. Most of his high school performance experiences came from musical theater, but his heart always belonged to opera. He vividly remembers listening to Siegfried's sword forging scene while getting ready to go on for a high school production of Woody Allen's "Don't Drink the Water". His first opera role was in 2014 as the Page in a local production of Amahl and the Night Visitors. He attended The Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam from 2014-2018, where he was able to learn the fundamentals of being an opera singer while also performing leading roles in The Tender Land, Gianni Schicchi, and Die Zauberflöte. Since graduating, Henry has continued his pursuit of becoming a working professional in his field. He expanded his connections by working with local, professional New York opera companies and also expanding his base with companies in other states. Since 2020, Henry has had the pleasure of performing baritone roles in the standard repertoire every summer in Winter Harbor, ME. Recently, he had the most siginificant musical experience of his life as an apprentice artist at Sarasota Opera's 2025 winter season. He currently maintains his day job as an office manager at Smilosophy Dental in Port Washington, and is also the proud bass section leader at St. John's Episcopal Church of Lattingtown, NY. His desire to reach the highest levels of the opera field remain Henry's main goal in life.
