Biography

Jacob Westerbeke

Jacob Westerbeke is a violist from Grand Rapids, MI. Currently, he is pursuing a BM in Viola Performance under the tutelage of Caroline Coade at the University of Michigan-School of Music, Theatre, and Dance. During his time at the University of Michigan, he has performed with the University Symphony and Philharmonia Orchestras as well as locally with the Adrian Symphony Orchestra. In 2022, Jacob was nominated for a Grammy for Best Orchestral Performance on John Luther Adams' Sila: The Breath of the World alongside Matt Albert, Doug Perkins and the JACK Quartet. Jacob has also attended many summer festivals including Interlochen, Saint Paul Chamber Music Institute, Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival, Sewanee, Online Solo String Intensive and Hilton Head Chamber Music Institute where he studied with Helen Callus, Renee Skerik, and Philippe Chao. Jacob is fortunate to have studied with Barbara Corbato, who helped start him on a lifelong journey with music.
