Biography

Jaime Sharp

Originally from Orlando, FL, Jaime Sharp (she/they) is "a mezzo-soprano whose artistry, administration, and activism is rooted in accessibility and change" (TRILLOQUY). She now resides in Cincinnati, OH on the unceded territories of the Algonquian-speaking Shawnee, Miami, and Delaware tribes. Jaime Sharp is a dynamic leader driven to create transformative experiences through storytelling, and discover ways in which the arts can positively impact society and social change.

Jaime currently serves as Communications & Publications Manager for Grantmakers in the Arts. She began her tenure as an administrator with the Hart Institute at The Dallas Opera, and in the third cohort of BIPOC Leadership Circle with artEquity. Jaime recently completed her time as a mentee for Women of Color in the Arts' Leadership Through Mentorship, and obtained a certificate from the Tessitura Network in Fundraising Fundamentals. They were an inaugural cohort member for OPERA America's Opera Leaders of Color, and participant in the All Rise Initiative with Tom O'Connor Consulting Group. Her work is strongly focused on racial equity in the arts, serving as the 2021-2022 EDI Research Fellow for Association of Arts Administration Educators, and former Administrative Manager for the Black Opera Alliance. Jaime co-founded the choral ensemble Hear Us, Hear Them, a Black-led Cincinnati organization dedicated to programming and commissioning works by traditionally under-utilized composers, and currently serves as Executive Director. She also led Opera NexGen as President & General Director from 2020-2022. Jaime has worked in the marketing departments of the American Repertory Theatre, Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, and the University Musical Society.

In addition to her administrative pursuits, Jaime is an active performer. This season, they join Opera Ithaca as a young artist and makes her soloist debut with the Akron Symphony Orchestra. She has sung with Cincinnati Opera Opera Fusion: New Works, Detroit Opera (formerly Michigan Opera Theatre), Opera MODO, Detroit Song Collective, Brevard Music Center, and the Chautauqua Opera Institution. They were an Apprentice Artist with Des Moines Metro Opera during Summer 2022. Jaime received the Audience Choice Award at the 2020 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions Great Lakes Regional Finals, and the Hilda Harris Mezzo-Soprano Award at the 2018 George Shirley Vocal Competition.

Jaime holds a MM in Vocal Performance from the College-Conservatory of Music, University of Cincinnati (CCM), and BM in Vocal Performance from the University of Michigan  She is pursuing a MBA and a MA in Arts Administration. Additionally, she joins the National Arts Strategies Executive Program for Arts & Culture beginning in 2023. Their projects have been highlighted in articles, interviews, and panels for: OPERA America, Grantmakers in the Arts, Association of Arts Administration Educators, I Care If You Listen, OperaWire, Modern Singer Magazine, TRILLOQUY, Latina Women in Opera, and Black Women in Opera. Jaime is a founding member of Black Administrators of Opera, a cabinet advisory member for SINGTANK at Victory Hall Opera, and active with Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra Multicultural Awareness Council, Americans for the Arts, Association of Performing Arts Professionals, Arts Administrators of Color, Racial Justice Opera Network, OPERA America, Association of Arts Administration Educators, and BIPOC Arts.
