Continuing the story of The Barber of Seville, Count Almaviva's eye has now wandered and his current objective is Susanna, Figaro's fiancée. The distressed couple, along with Rosina (now the Countess Almaviva) conspire to reveal the count's lechery, despite the many obstacles thrown in their way. Mozart's musical genius, along with Lorenzo DaPonte's witty libretto make The Marriage of Figaro one of opera's masterpieces.
Jake will perform as Sir Joseph Porter
Set aboard the British ship HMS Pinafore, this delightful operetta tells the tale of Ralph Rackstraw, a lowly sailor, who falls in love with the captain's daughter, Josephine. Despite the social divide, Ralph's determined pursuit of Josephine's heart faces obstacles from her father, Captain Corcoran, who has other matrimonial plans for her involving the pompous Sir Joseph Porter. With a cast of colorful characters, charming songs, and a series of surprising revelations, this witty and satirical story navigates themes of love, duty, and social class, ultimately leading to a joyous and unexpected resolution where love conquers all.

The season closes with a grand production of Gilbert & Sullivan's H.M.S. Pinafore, a comedic tale of love and hijinks on the high seas. Set amongst the gorgeous Victorian village at Heritage Square Museum, this show features table seating, wine, and bring-your-own-picnicking. A co-production with Opera Las Vegas, the show opens in Las Vegas on June 6 & 8, before traveling to Los Angeles. Opera Las Vegas Music Director, Josh Horsch, returns to POP to conduct, and Josh Shaw directs this lively, outdoor production.

The operas of Giuseppe Verdi have been an important part of the history of Sarasota Opera, the only company to have presented all his work. Principal Artists from the Sarasota Opera with the Sarasota Orchestra, conducted by Victor DeRenzi, will present selections from these great works in concert.
Born and raised in Tunkhannock, Pennsylvania, Jake Stamatis has performed a variety of roles on the operatic stage. His quick, kind, and lovable demeanor has charmed audiences in such roles as Papageno in Die Zauberflöte, Figaro in both Il barbiere di Sivigla and Le nozze di Figaro, Leporello in Don Giovanni, Marcello and Schaunard in La Boheme, and The Pirate King in The Pirates of Penzance. His varied repertoire also includes Enrico in Lucia di Lammeroor, Il conte in Le nozze di Figaro, Zurga in Les pêcheurs de perles, La Bête in La belle et la bête (Glass), and Anthony in Sweeney Todd. Jake has been a studio artist at Sarasota Opera, a fellow at the Music Academy of the West, an emerging artist at Seagle Music Festival, and an artist in residence with Tri-Cities Opera and Opera Memphis. Jake received his Bachelors Degree in Vocal Performance from Susquehanna University, and his Masters Degree in Opera from Binghamton University.
