Born in Cebu, Philippines, Jeconiah Retulla is an exceptionally talented young baritone who has been making marks in Europe. His musical journey has led him to finish a master’s degree in voice at the prestigious Mozarteum University in Salzburg under the guidance of Univ. Prof. Mario Diaz where he was awarded the Lili Lehman medaille for academic excellence. He previously completed his Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance with Magna Cum Laude honors at the University of the Philippines in Diliman, Philippines.
He portrayed prominent roles such as Valentin in Faust, Ford in Falstaff, Marcello in La Bohème, Guglielmo in Così fan tutte, Count Almaviva in Le Nozze di Figaro, 1st SS-Man in Passegierin, Angelo in Das Liebesverbot, Barone Douphol in La Traviata, Antonio in Il viaggio a Reims, The Manager in La Divina, Count Gil in Il segreto di Susanna, Ben in The Telephone, among many others. This 2024- 2025 season, he continues to showcase his versatility and stage presence as part of the ensemble of Theater Niederrhein, a dynamic collaboration of the theaters in Krefeld and Mönchengladbach in western Germany.
He has been singing concerts all over Europe, especially oratorios, and as an ambassador of goodwill by the Philippines, especially in Italy and Austria. He has been recognized through finalist placements in renowned competitions such as the AsLiCo Opera Singing Competition and the Belvedere Singing Competition in March 2023. Additionally, he has been honored with prestigious awards, including the Gianna-Szel Scholarship and the ASEA-Uninet Scholarship.
