Biography

Jennifer Ann Mayer

Known for her rich vocal timbre and unique theatrical flair, mezzo-soprano Jennifer Ann Mayer is an emerging singer and voice pedagogue in Austin, Texas. Recent roles include Edka in Jake Heggie's Out of Darkness: Two Remain, Ragonde in Le Comte Ory, Marcellina in Le Nozze di Figaro, Dorothée in Cendrillon, and both Mago and Eustazio in Rinaldo. She has also enjoyed exploring many partial roles, including Gertrude Stein (27, Ricky Ian Gordon), The Secretary (The Consul), Presendia (Dark Sisters), and The Third Lady (Die Zauberflöte), among others. Ms. Mayer holds a Master of Music in Vocal Performance and Pedagogy from the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University. Here, she studied with Dr. Steven Rainbolt and Dr. Robert Muckenfuss to not only hone her craft as a singer and performer, but also to refine her skills as a teacher of voice. In 2015, Jennifer earned her Bachelor of Arts in Music and Communication Studies from the University of Puget Sound, in her home state of Washington. Jennifer has found that studying interpersonal communication in tandem with vocal performance provided her with an intersectional perspective of human nature, relationships, and emotion. This perspective not only aides her in performance, but in her teaching as well. Jennifer is the proud recipient of an Encouragement Award from the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, multiple first place prizes in NATS competitions, and several endowed awards from her time at the University of Puget Sound and the Peabody Institute.
