Biography

Jessica Harper

Australian soprano Jessica Harper graduated summa cum laude with a
Postgraduate Concert Soloist Diploma at the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp in
2022. She made her debut at the Semperoper Dresden in Angus Lee’s new opera chasing waterfalls in 2022 in the role of Schein/Ego Fluens. Her other operatic
repertoire includes, Donna Anna (Don Giovanni), Rosalinde (Die Fledermaus),
Casilda (The Gondoliers), Lisa (La Sonnambula), Pamina (Die Zauberflöte), Mrs
Norris in Mansfield Park (Jonathan Dove, 2011) and the title role (written for
her) in Miss Brill (Ben Hoadley, 2018).

Equally at home with concert repertoire, Jessica jumped in at Theater
Magdeburg to sing the soprano solo of Mahler’s Fourth Symphony in 2022. She
has performed the soprano solos in Handel’s Messiah, Bach’s Johannespassion
(also broadcast nationally on ABC Classic FM, the premier national radio station
of Australia), and several other major oratorio works.

She is a passionate recitalist and collaborates often with her duo partner Anna
Alvizou. They recently won the prize for 'best interpretation of the commissioned piece' at the International Lied Festival Zeist Young Artist Platform (2023).

Internationally, Jessica has represented Australia in several competitions; she
has been a semifinalist in the Glyndebourne Opera Cup (2020), the Tenor Viñas
Singing Competition (2021), the Éva Marton Singing Competition (2021), the
Internationaler Mozart Wettbewerb (2023), the International Virgilius Noreika Competition and was awarded 2 nd prize in the International Rita Gorr Competition in Ghent (2022).

Prior to relocating to Europe in 2019, she won 1 st and 2 nd prizes or was a finalist
in every major Australian singing competition; most noteworthy amongst these
were winner of the Opera Foundation for young Australians AIMS in Graz and
AIMS Sundell Awards (2019) and 2 nd prizes in the Sydney Eisteddfod Opera
Scholarship (2017) and the Herald Sun Aria (2016).

Jessica was also selected for the foremost young artist programmes for opera
singers in Australia, holding the Dame Nellie Melba Scholarship of the Melba
Opera Trust and a full scholarship position with Pacific Opera.
