Percussionist Jonas Koh enjoys an exciting career as an orchestral musician and a solo marimbist. Jonas lives in San Francisco, CA and serves as section percussionist in the Eugene Symphony. Currently, he is finishing his Bachelor’s degree in percussion performance at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. His major teachers have included Jacob Nissly, Ed Stephan, Michael Burritt, Galen Lemmon, and Tammy Chen.
Jonas has been awarded 1st place in marimba, snare drum, and timpani at the PAS California Competitive Festival in 2015, 1st place in the instrumental solo division at the US Open Music Competition in 2016, and 1st place in the Great Plains International Marimba Competition in 2018. In 2018, Jonas won the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra concerto competition and performed Emmanuel Séjourné's Concerto for Marimba and String Orchestra with the SFSYO in Louise M. Davies Symphony Hall. He has also performed the concerto with the Korean Jade Philharmonic Orchestra in 2018.
During the summers, Jonas has studied at the Aspen Music Festival and School, PRISMA Festival, and the Bowdoin International Music Festival.
