He/Him Jonathan Howard Katz is a NYC-based composer and pianist, and artistic director of Periapsis Music and Dance. As a composer he has written extensively for piano, strings, and voice, as well as small and larger ensembles, and he has developed deep ties in the dance community, collaborating with 35 choreographers to date. Earlier this year he performed as guest pianist with New York City Ballet at Lincoln Center and the Guggenheim Museum.

Described as “gifted and uncompromising,” Jonathan Howard Katz is a NYC-based composer and pianist who enjoys a varied and eclectic career. His music has been heard at Symphony Space, Bargemusic, Merkin Hall, the Piccolo Spoleto Festival, and numerous other venues, and has been performed by the Mivos Quartet, Da Capo Chamber Players, pianists Ursula Oppens and Jerome Lowenthal, cellist Jeffrey Zeigler, and many others. Recognized as a leader in interdisciplinary work with dance, Dr. Katz has collaborated as composer with over thirty choreographers, including Seán Curran, Gabrielle Lamb, PeiJu Chien-Pott, and Kate Skarpetowska. He directed Periapsis Music and Dance for its entire 10-year run, performed as guest pianist with New York City Ballet at Lincoln Center and the Guggenheim, and taught music classes for dancers as faculty at NYU Tisch. He holds a doctorate in piano performance from Northwestern University and degrees from New England Conservatory and Indiana University.
