Returning home to Southeast Idaho, soprano Jordan Bowman—whose dazzling voice and magnetic stage presence have launched a thriving career on the stages of Opera and Broadway—joins the Symphony for a night of unforgettable music. From the charming elegance of Franz Lehár and Richard Rodgers to the breathtaking beauty of Wagner’s “Liebestod” from Tristan und Isolde, Bowman’s performance will captivate the heart and soul.
With the full power of the orchestra unleashed, the evening reaches its emotional peak with Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture—one of the most beloved and stirring works ever written, filled with soaring melodies and heart-wrenching drama.

The story of Thaïs is rooted in history—though shaped by myth, morality, and artistic imagination. The real Thaïs lived in 4th-century Alexandria and was a famed courtesan of great beauty and influence. Historical records are sparse, but she appears in early Christian writings as a symbol of redemption. According to legend, she renounced her former life and, guided by a monk named Paphnutius, became a Christian penitent, eventually canonized as Saint Thaïs of Egypt.
This powerful arc—from worldly pleasure to spiritual devotion—fascinated artists and writers for centuries. In the 19th century, French novelist Anatole France reimagined the tale in his novella Thaïs, emphasizing the psychological conflict of the monk more than the courtesan herself. Massenet’s opera, based on France’s version, leans into this emotional tension. Rather than portraying Thaïs as a cautionary figure, the opera gives her depth and agency, making her spiritual awakening feel profound and sincere.
Massenet’s score, lush and sensual, mirrors the opera’s central theme: the struggle between earthly desire and divine salvation. The music shifts from the heat of Alexandria to the stark stillness of the desert, tracing both characters’ internal transformations. Today, Thaïs continues to provoke reflection—not just on the extremes of indulgence or asceticism, but on the human capacity for change.

THE MAGIC FLUTE

The Magic Flute by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is one of the world’s most famous musical stage productions. It involves Tamino, a handsome young prince, who finds himself in a magical land between the sun and the moon. There he encounters a giant serpent, the evil Queen of the Night, and her daughter, Pamina, who is being held captive by the high priest, Sarastro. With the assistance of Papageno, a comical bird catcher, and other magical characters, Tamino is able to free and save Pamina. However, both she and Tamino must then face the terrifying ordeals and trials of water and fire together, while only being protected by his magic flute, which has the power to change men’s hearts. It is a virtuous story of triumph, courage, and wisdom overcoming evil.
It is said that The Magic Flute was the greatest operatic success of Mozart’s entire career. It is unlike anything else that he ever wrote, and is, without question, an absolute masterpiece of musical theatre. The story is a combination of serious and life-threatening situations combined with moments of side-splitting, slapstick comedy and special effects. No matter the direction the story takes, the music is always beautiful, always magical, and always Mozart!
This family-friendly, musical stage production is suitable for all ages. It’s FUN for everyone!

ABOUT THE SHOW
A one-act composed to pair with Purcell’s Dido & Aeneas, the opera & Aeterna tells a new story of the pair’s daughter as she embarks on a quest to find–and kill–the father who abandoned her at birth. & Aeterna combines performance practices of contemporary opera, Early Music, and musical theater to recontextualize Virgil’s Aeneid via the women Aeneas left in his wake.
This concert reading will include excerpts from Dido & Aeneas and the complete score of & Aeterna.
SYNOPSIS
After her mother’s death and father’s abandonment, 16-year-old Aeterna has been raised as Carthage’s new queen by the city’s Goddess protector, Juno. When news finally comes of Aeneas founding Rome, the city destined to one day destroy Carthage, everyone is in uproar. Aeterna, guided by Juno, sets out to avenge her mother and save her home. But Aeterna has spent a lifetime yearning to connect with the parents she has never known, trying to understand her own place in a world of gods and destiny. As Aeterna nears Aeneas on her long, dangerous journey, she must choose: either forgive her father, or kill him. This work grapples with themes of parenthood, legacy, and the costs of becoming “Great.”

Biography
Jordan Bowman is an American soprano, currently based in Idaho, known for her opulent vocal color, robust chest voice, and heart-wrenching dramaticism onstage. This year, she placed 3rd in The American Prize 2025 with composer Nathan Scalise for their vocal chamber performance of Idaho Songs. In 2024, she enjoyed her Carnegie Hall debut performing as the soprano soloist in Durante's Magnificat with MidAmerica Productions. She won the Idaho/Montana District in 2019 and 2022, as well as the Utah district in 2021 for the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, First Prize of the 2019 NYC SongSlam Competition, the 2019 Philip Friedheim Memorial Award, and was a finalist in the 2015 Idaho Falls Symphony Young Artist Competition.
Jordan made three role debuts in the spring of 2023, two of which were premieres. In concert, she performed the role of Dadga, the evil wind goddess, in Brian Hosefros' new operetta, Peter Prickles, in Boise, as well as Fiordiligi in Mozart's Così fan tutte with Randsman Artists' Management in New York City. After, she had the pleasure of revisiting and live premiering the role of Maya in Lisa Neher and Kendra Preston Leonard's new opera, Sense of Self, at the New Music Gathering in Portland. This opera was presented first as a film during the pandemic with Opera Elect.
In 2022, Jordan made four role debuts. First, as the cunning Susanna in Mozart's Le nozze dì Figaro in concert with Gemma Arts in their exciting inaugural production. She then traveled to the Teatro Communale di Giuseppe Manini di Narni in Italy to perform Dido in Andrea DelGiudice's spectacularly reimagined Dido & Aeneas, which was concurrently produced with critically-acclaimed composer Jake Landau's new epilogue opera, & Aeterna, where Jordan portrayed a continuation of the deceased Queen of Carthage. In the fall, she originated the vocally commanding role of the Angel of Death in Nathan Scalise's biting new dark comedy opera, A Great Resignation, at the Hartford Fringe Festival.
