Biography

Jose Hernandez

Jose Hernandez holds a MM degree in Voice Performance from the University of Houston and BA in Voice Performance from the University of New Orleans. Artistic awards include being named a district winner and regional finalist of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions in the Gulf Coast region and New Orleans District. Mr. Hernandez was invited to participate in 5 summer seasons as a Young Artist, Festival Artist, and soloist with Utah Festival Opera receiving much praise from Michael Ballam, the founder and General Director making Jose Hernandez one of the most sought-after artists for the company. He has performed with San Francisco Opera, Houston Grand Opera, New Orleans Opera, Opera San Jose, the Houston Symphony, Utah Festival Opera, Berkeley Opera, West Edge Opera, and with many Bay Area regional opera companies. He appeared on the DVD and PBS Great Performances in Jake Heggie’s Moby Dick with the San Francisco Opera. Instrumental training includes oboe studies at the United States Armed Forces School of Music. He has further instrumental music training on flute, clarinet, saxophone, piano, organ, and mallet percussion.
