Biography

Joshua Valdes

For as long as he can remember, music has been the most important part of Joshua Valdes’ life. Music was always a personal outlet and source of joy for Joshua and his family. He remembers hearing his grandparents stories of performing when they were younger. Coming from a musical family where his grandmother and mother sang in choral groups and grandfather sang and played in a mariachi band, Joshua was inspired to pursue music as a career. He began singing when he was a child and joined his first choir when he was in elementary school. From there, he participated in choirs, musical theatre, and acapella groups throughout junior high and high school. Joshua played his first operatic role at the age of 17 which influenced him to pursue music as a career. From playing various operatic roles such as “Don Giovanni” and “Figaro” to singing in award winning choirs such as C.O.C’s “Just Jazz” and the BCCM Chamber Ensemble, he has a wide variety of vocal ability. Joshua has had the opportunity to sing in renowned venues such as Carnegie Hall, where he sang a solo from Mozart’s Dixit Dominus, and The Mormon Tabernacle where he was apart of the BCCM Chamber Ensemble’s debuting of the west coast premiere of Eric Whitacre’s “The Sacred Veil”. He has also attended The Monterey Jazz Festival where he competed with “Just Jazz” and sang with choirs at both CCDA and Western ACDA conferences. He has studied with various teachers among some of the most prestigious programs in the U.S. including CSU Long Beach, UC Los Angeles, and New York University. He has had the opportunity to compete and place in numerous competitions including the SCCEA, SCVA, and Hal Leonard Musical Theatre and Classical Voice competitions. Joshua has recently finished his studies at UCLA recieving a Master's degree in Voice. He is currently working professionally as a singer and voice teacher.
