Tenor Juan Carlos Tello, originally from Mexico City, has built a distinguished artistic career that combines solid academic training with an active presence on the national and international operatic scene. He began his studies at the Conservatorio Nacional de Música in Mexico City, where he discovered his passion for opera and laid the foundations of his vocal technique.
Outside his formal studies, Juan Carlos has worked with renowned private teachers Carlos Aransay, as his voice teacher, and Andrés Sarre, as his vocal coach and repertoire specialist.
Juan Carlos broadened his artistic horizons by earning a Master’s degree in Music from the State University of New York, where he studied with Thomas Goodheart. During his time in the United States, he performed as a soloist in significant academic productions, including the roles of Rinuccio in Gianni Schicchi, Alfredo in Die Fledermaus, and as a soloist in the monumental Carmina Burana.
His international career has taken him to renowned stages and festivals. At the Miami Music Festival, he performed the role of Tamino in Mozart’s The Magic Flute; at Chicago Summer Opera, he portrayed Oronte in Handel’s Alcina; at Périgord Noir Festival, he took on the role of San Giovanni in Handel’s La Resurrezione; and at the Savannah Voice Festival, he participated in the world premiere of Jodi Gobles’ contemporary opera, portraying Mr. Pete. Additionally, he has appeared in other festivals such as the Festival de Música de Cáceres and Lyric Opera Studio Weimar, establishing himself as a versatile and committed performer. Professionally, he has collaborated with the Orquesta Sinfónica del Estado de México in productions of Rossini’s Il Signor Bruschino and La Scala di Seta. In the United States, he was part of the most recent season of the Tri Cities Opera company in New York, performing as cover for Tamino in Mozart’s The Magic Flute, Borsa in Verdi’s Rigoletto, in the ensemble of Rothstein’s contemporary opera All is Calm, and in the title role of Papagayo in Barnes’ opera.
Soon, Juan Carlos will begin an Artist Diploma at the prestigious Schwob School of Music in Columbus, Georgia, further consolidating his artistic training and international profile.
