Julia Dawson

Hailed by Opera News as “radiant and riveting” and the New York Times as “a spitfire”, Canadian coloratura mezzo Julia Dawson is a winner of the George London Award and Anny-Schlemm Preis. After training at the Academy of Vocal Arts, Santa Fe Opera, and the Glimmerglass Festival, she graduated from the Opernstudio at Oper Frankfurt and joined the ensemble for two seasons singing roles including Angelina in La Cenerentola, and Goffredo in a new production of Rinaldo. Further engagements include Zerlina for Theater Bremen, Scarlatti’s Erminia and Emilia in Vivaldi’s Catone in Utica with Opera Lafayette, Mozart's Great Mass in C minor with the Vocal Concert Dresden, and Poème de l'amour et de la mer with the Frankfurter Opern- und Museumsorchester. During 2020, Julia spearheaded several video projects with colleagues from orchestras throughout Europe and Canada, raising funds for the Bail Project and the Artist Relief Tree including “Moz’Art Attack!”, Mozart’s Alleluia with a twist, as well as “Gone in 60 Seconds”, a series of micro-commissions for voice and violin. Upcoming engagements include Pulcinella with the French Radio Orchestra under the baton of Barbara Hannigan,and a house debut as Rosina in Il barbiere di Siviglia. She can be heard with pianist Anna Naretto on “Girl in the Snow”, an album of songs by composer Scott Ordway on the Acis label.
