(She/Her) Soprano Julia Wolcott is establishing herself as an exciting young dramatic voice. In 2022, she was an apprentice artist at Sarasota Opera where she received the Anne J. O’Donnell Award. In 2020, she was scheduled to cover Ada in Wagner’s Die Feen at the Glimmerglass Festival and sing Ortlinde + cover Sieglinde in Die Walküre with the Potomac Vocal Institute (canceled - COVID-19.) Julia made her debut with the Glimmerglass Festival, where she sang Liza in Tchaikovsky’s Queen of Spades.

Julia Wolcott

Praised by the New York Times for her ability to turn from “strong and vindictive to melting and back in an instant,” American soprano Julia Wolcott is quickly establishing herself as an exciting young dramatic voice, distinguishing herself with her musical intelligence and stylistic versatility. In the 2022 season, she was an apprentice artist at Sarasota Opera where she received the Anne J. O’Donnell Award for an Outstanding Apprentice Artist. In the 2020 season, she was scheduled to cover Ada in Wagner’s Die Feen at the Glimmerglass Festival and sing Ortlinde and cover Sieglinde in Die Walküre with the Potomac Vocal Institute (canceled due to COVID-19.) Julia’s 2018-2019 season included her debut with the Glimmerglass Festival, where she sang Liza in Tchaikovsky’s Queen of Spades and Revolutionary Woman in The Ghosts of Versailles (a co-production with Glimmerglass Opera and Opéra Royal / Château de Versailles Spectacles), and covered Annina in La Traviata. Other recent engagements include Vera in Dolores Claiborne, Violetta in La Traviata, and Lady Billows in Albert Herring with the Boston University Opera Institute. A recent graduate of BUOI, she has also participated in young artist training programs at the Aspen Music Festival (where she performed Tulip in Bolcom’s A Wedding and Angel 1/Waitress in Seven Angels), Charlottesville Opera, the Castleton Festival, and the Bay View Music Festival. She also performed a concert of songs of Strauss with the Williamsport Symphony Orchestra. Ms. Wolcott has made appearances with several major opera competitions: the Eastern Region Finals of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions (3rd place winner), the Dallas Opera Guild Competition (semi-finalist), the Premiere Opera Vocal Competition (semi-finalist), and the Classical Singer Competition (Emerging Pro winner). On the concert stage, her performances include the soprano solo in Mozart’s Requiem under the baton of Maestro Gary Thor Wedow (Juilliard Orchestra/Westminster Chapel Choir), Iain Burnside’s Drums and Guns concerts in Dublin and London honoring the 1916 Irish Uprising, and Brian Zeger’s Songfest at Alice Tully Hall. She received her M.M. in Voice from the Juilliard School, where she performed the role of Giunone in La Calisto and participated in live-streamed masterclasses with Stephanie Blythe and Maestro Fabio Luisi, and her B.M in Voice with distinction from the Pennsylvania State University, where she performed Madame Lidoine in Poulenc’s Dialogues of the Carmelites.
