Joy Jungmin Son is an operatic soprano and a native of South Korea, currently based in New York. She is pursuing her Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) degree in Voice at Stony Brook University under the mentorship of Jeremy Little.She previously earned her Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance at the Manhattan School of Music, where she studied with Mary Dunleavy. She completed her Bachelor of Music degree at Yonsei University.Jungmin has portrayed roles such as La Contessa (Le Nozze di Figaro), Mimì (La Bohème), and Anna Gomez (The Consul), and made her operatic debut as the Shepherd Boy in Tosca under the baton of Marco Balderi. In the 2024–2025 season, she performed as Almirena in Handel’s Rinaldo at the Manhattan School of Music (April 2025) and portrayed the title role of Rusalka in Dvořák’s Rusalka at the 2025 Miami Music Festival, conducted by Ben Makino.Additionally, Jungmin was selected as a soloist singer for the Independence Day concert held on July 4th, 2025, at the Miami Music Festival Ocean Drive event, performing before an audience of several hundred attendees.
Beyond opera, she has extensive ensemble experience and has performed as a soloist in numerous concerts.She is the winner of the 2024 Lillian Fuchs Chamber Music Competition, as well as the Music Chunchu Competition and the Nanpa National Music Competition. Jungmin is dedicated to refining her artistry and bringing emotionally compelling performances to audiences worldwide.
