Biography

Kamila Dotta

From a Uruguayan origin and Venezuelan upbringing, Kamila Dotta is a first-year Cello Fellow at the New World Symphony, where she serves as a mentor for the College Track Mentoring Program. Prior to joining NWS, she has enjoyed a successful solo, chamber and orchestral career across South America, Europe and the United States.

Passionate about different cultures, new music and performing underrepresented compositions, Ms. Dotta has worked closely with living composers and has recorded many of their works. She has premiered compositions with both the Contemporary and New Music Ensembles at the Shepherd School of Music and performed works by Latin American and Black composers at the Sphinx Competition.

A seasoned chamber musician, Ms. Dotta worked closely with the Takács Quartet during her undergraduate degree. Her former chamber group, the Namalèse Quartet, won a Starling Foundation award that led to a short residency in Florence, Italy. The group toured Europe, giving recitals in cities such as Rome, Alba, Úštěk and Prague.

Most recently, Ms. Dotta participated in an interactive workshop with cellist Yo-Yo Ma called Music Art Life - Bach, Unlocking Meaning, and Finding Purpose. In this experience, Ms. Dotta was one of four cellists who performed the Six Cello Suites by J.S. Bach. This interactive program was newly released online and explores the relationship between music and human connection.

Ms. Dotta earned her master of music degree from Rice University. She also holds degrees in French and music performance from the University of Colorado Boulder. Her mentors include Norman Fischer, David Requiro, Roland Pidoux, and Germán Marcano.
