On stage, Kate has proven “winningly wily and dauntless” in repertoire ranging from the Baroque to new works. Kate is also aprolific concert soloist and recitalist. She has performed at The Kennedy Center, Carnegie Hall, and The Tanglewood Music Center.
In the 2024-2025 season, Kate made her debut with The Baltimore Symphony in Mahler’s Das klagende Lied and will sing Federica inWashington Concert Opera’s production of Luisa Miller.

As the first opera of Verdi’s middle period, Luisa Miller shows Verdi’s refinement of style on his way to operatic perfection. This sumptuously beautiful romantic drama tells the story of “Luisa,” the sweet peasant girl who falls in love with “Rodolfo”, son of a ruthless nobleman. Striking arias (including Rodolfo’s famous “Quando le sere al placido”), duets and ensembles reveal the passion of the characters on their journey towards a tragic end. Experience the emotion and high Italian drama of Verdi’s Luisa Miller with WCO’s superstar cast.

We begin with Aaron Copland’s In the Beginning, a seminal work by the composer most commonly credited with establishing an ‘American’ sound. But in this towering and difficult-to-classify work, Copland turns to origins and beginnings. Next we perform Ted Hearne’s Privilege (2009), a collection of five short pieces that address socio-economic inequality and conclude with a tribute to the power of music to fight oppression. The program culminates in the premiere of a new work by Indian American composer Juhi Bansal. Hailed as a “composer to watch” by The Washington Post and “radiant and transcendent” by New Classic LA, Bansal explores the themes of cultural and musical diversity and the environment in her works.

The Sound Between singers will collaborate with renowned choreographer Levi Marsman to present a workshop performance of composer Joby Talbot’s spectacular work: Path of Miracles.
Path of Miracles is a 70 minute piece of music performed in four movements. Each movement takes the audience on a journey in the footsteps of a person walking the Camino de Santiago - a winding path through the hills of Spain. For centuries, people have traveled from all over the world to walk the Camino as a means of finding inner transformation, peace, or to grieve or honor a loved one who has been lost.
The Sound Between co-founders Matthew Goinz and Sophie Amelkin are drawn to share this piece because it speaks to the trials, doubt, camaraderie, loneliness and ecstasy of the human life experience. There is nothing more human than bringing a group of creative passionate artists together to create a tapestry of musical storytelling that is far greater than what can be accomplished alone.
