Praised with a voice that has “melted the hearts of many” (Kingston Snapd), Kathryn Rose Johnston is an up-and-coming soprano on the Canadian opera scene, having recently been selected as a finalist with the Atelier lyrique de l'Opéra de Montréal National Auditions and the Toronto Mozart Vocal Competition. A native of Kingston, Ontario, Kathryn has studied across the country from a Bachelor of Music at the University of Toronto to a Master of Music at the University of British Columbia. Kathryn is a co-creator and co-star of The Java and Three, a concert based on a retelling of Bach’s Coffee Cantata which will be reprised this summer. She has also premiered and workshopped new works by various Canadian composers including Dean Burry and Norbert Palej. Kathryn’s recent roles include Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro, First Wood Sprite in Rusalka (UBC Opera); Clorinda in La Cenerentola, Servilia in La clemenza di Tito (COSA Canada) and she is currently Allegra in The Shoestring Magic Flute, touring GTA elementary schools with Shoestring Opera. This summer she is a part of the inaugural Saugeen Opera Festival singing Musetta in La bohéme and Josephine in HMS Pinafore.
